Complete CNSS Guide Morocco 2026
What is CNSS?
The Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale (CNSS) is the Moroccan public body responsible for social protection of private sector employees. It manages family benefits, short and long-term benefits (illness, maternity, disability, retirement, death) and Mandatory Health Insurance (AMO).
Who must register?
Every private sector employer is required to register their employees with CNSS from the first day of work. Registration is mandatory and covers all employees, including apprentices and paid interns.
Declaration deadlines
Salary declarations and contribution payments must be made before the end of the month following the work period. For example, January contributions must be declared and paid before the end of February.
Declaration via DAMANCOM
DAMANCOM (damancom.ma) is the CNSS online portal for electronic declaration and payment of social contributions. Employers can make their monthly declarations, check their status and manage their employees' files.
Late payment penalties
For late payment of general regime contributions: 3% surcharge for the first month, then 0.5% for each additional month of delay. For AMO: 1% penalty per month of delay.
AMO vs CNSS difference
CNSS manages all social benefits (family allowances, retirement, short/long-term benefits). AMO (Mandatory Health Insurance) is a specific regime managed by CNSS that covers healthcare costs. AMO is funded by contributions separate from standard CNSS contributions.
Retirement conditions
To qualify for a CNSS retirement pension, the employee must have accumulated at least 3,240 days of contributions and reached the age of 60. The pension is calculated based on the average salary of the last 96 declared months.
